Health Insurance for Twitterers

Welcome bloggees, to the first social media post.  My name is Suzanne T. and I am the official Twitterer for eHealthInsurance, as well as the official Facebooker, -yes, you can use that.

When I began tweeting for eHealthInsurance, it was still uncharted territory for those interested in health care information.  These days, searches on Twitter with generic terms like “health,” or “health care” generate a cornucopia of marketers and news bots powered by a myriad of RSS feeds.

I’ve spent a lot of time on Twitter searching for health related tweets over the years.  Though eHealthInsurance as a company doesn’t endorse specific Twitterers, I wanted to share five of my personal favorite Health Twitterers for those of you who crave health-y tweets:

1. GinnyDillon:  Ginny is a single mom who is passionate about health and believes everyone should have health insurance. She tweets relevant health related news and offers her opinion.  Here’s a sample of her tweets: “Today’s superheroes send wrong image to boys, say researchers sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/…via @AddThis #parent #family #boys”

2. DrKKolmes:  Here’s the perfect mix of tweets: mental health and social media.  Dr. Kolmes is a psychologist who tweets health related information, tips, comments on news and social media.  She tweets interesting health articles like this one, “Can Preschoolers be Depressed?”

3. DoctorMikeDow:  Here’s another doctor who tweets provocative statements. For example, this one: “Time to face the truth: Is your desk job bad for your #health?

4. theHSAguru:  This guy loves HSAs and wants to discuss them via Twitter.  Don’t know what an HSA is?  Start here.

5. DocRob:  This doctor supports natural health and a healthy lifestyle.  He tweets affirmations like this one: “I believe that a person CAN feel better on a daily basis… have more energy, less pain, balanced weight, sound sleep, more smiles…”

Cherry-pick your favorites and retweet!  If you’d like to share other great health care resources for Twitter or Facebook, I’d love to hear from you.  And don’t be shy.  Come over and say hi or share a useful link.  Social media is so big; it can feel lonely at times.
