Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Online Advocacy through Social Media

“Where do you like it (your purse)?” was or is the question being passed around on Facebook, and women are being asked to respond as a status on their Facebook accounts.  The purpose is to arouse attention and then bam (!) inform them October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Last year women were asked to post the color of their bra in order to provoke the same attention around breast cancer awareness month. And although these viral Facebook statuses might not be directly related to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, you have to admit; those posts got our attention…

So what is new this year with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation?  For one thing, the foundation is asking supporters to dedicate themselves to the fight and urging them to:

Visit our website. Get educated. Talk to your doctor. Learn about your treatment options. Join our advocacy efforts. We need everyone to promise to take an action to end breast cancer… Somewhere in the world a woman dies of breast cancer every 69 seconds.

Those are alarming numbers to say the least.  With a rate like that how can you not be concerned?
